It’s a Sock-Basket Revolution!

February 27, 2008

Ok fellow sock folders, it looks like we have a revolution a-brewin’
With the permission of a friend and reader/listener, I am posting her email to me. I’m inspired to tackle my sock basket. How ’bout you? Maybe we’re moving closer to that olympic team after-all!

READY!
SET!
FOLD!

I’ve decided that this is one of my elephants…and I must admit if I am to move forward.. I mean if you notice.. I believe that my basket is bigger than yours (which I’d like to stress that I am NOT bragging about) and there are only 4 people in this house!
I pledge to: sign off, to fold and to toss the loners WITHOUT GUILT OR SELFDOUBT.pilars-socks.jpg

A couple of hours after that email arrived, I received this one:

UPDATE: I did it! Its all done. And I feel GREAT!:)

I wish you each a completely folded sock basket!
Good night~

As silly as it might sound…that is insanely inspiring. All we have to do is Decide to make the changes we dread.

I love you and this site is such an instrumental part of my life…you really have no idea!

You’re Beautiful! Thanks again Jen xoxoxo

I disagree with Pilar………while I was down in San Diego last year your basket was ALWAYS fuller. It was always very hard for me to throw out the loners thinking that in the next load the match would show up. Throw aways for me would be the ones with large holes. To be honest here, this might sound crazy, but I do miss that twice-weekly ritual of the “folding of the socks”. Guess I need to get-a-life.

I remember our sock bag growing up. I don’t believe it was ever empty and all the socks paired up. Maybe it still exists today? Finding a pair of socks was such a chore.

We have a HUGE basket full that almost never gets tackled…however, I have one child that LOVES to match socks…that is now becoming HIS job…maybe we’ll get thru the sock basket some day before we move again! I’m tired of lugging that huge elephant around with us!

Update:
The socks have been washed, dried, and FOLDED again!

I believe removing the option to place socks in a designated basket is very important and will enable my success in keeping up this new habit of pairing socks each time laundry is washed.

It was incredibly liberating to throw away unmatched socks (still zero regret!) and somehow streamlined laundry day.

Thank you for everything you do Jen! You always inspire me!
