It’s a beautiful San Diego day and I decided to take my own advice and slow down to enjoy it. As you can see I had Gabi and Luke-Xavier outside in the swing. They both wanted to swing and I had to tell them to take turns. I decided we would count, slowly, to 10 for each turn. It’s amazing that at almost 2 and 3 1/2, that the #10 is not only understood, but makes sense! They each waited patiently for the other to swing 10 times (really it became more like 30 because I counted so slowly) and then they would happily jump out of the swing to let the other on. I was amazed and pleased at their cooperation.

Speaking of the #10, that happens to be the # of bathroom accidents that we’ve gone through with Gabi over the last couple of days. I don’t know what’s sparked this sudden step backward in potty training. I suppose she could understand a little better than I thought, about Clay’s upcoming deployment. She’s a very bright 3 year old and does pick up on the general feel of emotion around her. Well, let’s just hope this ends soon! I’m running out of wipes and towels!

10 is also the number of times I’ve told Luke-Xavier that we’re not going to nurse during the daytime. He’s been a strong nurser all along. But, he’s now approaching his 2nd birthday and I feel that it’s time to take the nursing to bedtime only. He doesn’t agree! 10×10 will probably be the number before the end of the day.

I hope you each have a beautiful day. It’s been a great San Diego day, so far~

Beautiful pictures! Hopefully the potty problems will resolve themselves. Remember I told you about Tate and his potty issues last week? It seems to have resolved itself- yay! Offering a piece of candy for every time he went poop in the potty seems to have worked!!! So, I’ll slowly “wean” him off the candy reward with lots of praise and encouragement and hope for the best! I remember weaning Tate around 2 yrs. as well and distracting him every time he asked for “mama’s mik”; it seemed to work most of the time. I gave in the handful of times he wasn’t going to take no for an answer & I think he was weaned within a few months. Counting to 10 is a good idea! When we’re inside, I use the kitchen timer a lot for turns. Its a nice objective reference for the kids. They here the beep, and its time to trade toys/ take turns. Prayers for you and your family during this time of preparation for Clay’s deployment. I hear a baby waking up… God bless.

I love this post…there they are counting so cooperatively…and so are you! “Count it all joy when you meet various trials, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.” (James 1:2) I can remember counting the hours some days when all my teens were little, and wondering if I would make it through…even when you know the cherubs are going to grow up, boy, that counting thing! Thanks for giving me a good reminder that counting can also be counting your blessings…

Okay, I have to admit… (and I forgot to mention this in my other post), I was anxiously anticipating, as I read each paragraph, a big announcement that you were expecting #10! hee hee! So, when your entry ended, I was bummed- kind of funny! oh well; I guess I like babies too much! See you all soon!

Alexis, when I was reading your comment, my first thought was that I must be putting on a little weight and that you thought I was looking pregnant. But now I get it!…….all the #10 things. I will certainly let you all know if that happens. I promise!

It is rather amazing that children are so in tune with their environments. I imagine it is possible for Gabs to be responding to the emotions of Daddy leaving as well as everyone else.
So nice to see how they cooperated and all three of you got to spend some time in the days beauty.
Haha…Speaking of the # 10…after I got off the phone with you yesterday Lisa and I were talking about the whole “John and Kate + 8″ thing and I was going “Clay and Jen +10″. Just thought I’d share, seems 10 has been popping up everywhere.

    Happy Tuesday!

    I LOVE YOU xoxoxo

Honestly, I wanted to say something about “10″ earlier BUT I knew you’d just rolled your eyes at my comment so I held back. You know what I thought when I heard there was a new bed.
