Our Good-Bye/The Beginning of The Deployment

It was a long and emotional morning. Clay left a couple hours ahead of me and the kids. We got ready and out the door, ate and got to the squadron. We were there for about 2 1/2 hours before it was decided that, even though Clay hadn’t actually left, we were going to say good-bye and head home. I’ve since, received my first email of the deployment and we are officially counting down to the next 7 months.
Here’s our morning, in pictures;
First, we got a pic with Clay and the kids (just in case it didn’t happen later. Plus, they were clean!)

Then the kids killed time by;
Having family photos taken in front of the helo

And finally, giving hugs (and tears) good-bye

So, as you can see, it was a long a full morning. We have a busy week, with me leaving for my grandmother’s funeral, tomorrow. Once I am home and we make it through this Easter weekend, we can get into a good routine and start marking off the days/weeks/months of this deployment. We are blessed to have a good support system, so that we don’t feel alone. Summer will come, Kateri and JJ will get home and we will be done in no time! Stay tuned! We’re bound to have some exciting days!
Thank you to all those who have offered kind words, thoughts and prayers for Clay and our family.
Good night~

I know this is a hard time for so many reasons, just know again I love you, all of you. I will continue to pray and do what I can to be there for each of you.
I hope you have a peaceful night. Sleep well.

Aww, sweetie.. I know. I know. The time leading up to Clay’s departure just flew by, and time will almost stand still for a bit, and then it will start flying again, but I forgot that you know!
Just remember, “Egbok” (pronounced like two foods: egg & bok [choy]) which means:
Everthing’s gonna be Okay.
I saw that on a button along time ago and it just stuck with me.
Many hugs,
Pilar

I’m going back in your blog a few weeks since I just found you. I flew to California just before Easter weekend to see my parents, and on the flight back, there were approximately twenty military men flying home for a brief, holiday visit to their families before deploying to Iraq. They were celebrities on board. We all clapped for them and they got to leave the plane first, etc. When I related this to my friend in England, she said that their military personnel really can’t wear their uniforms about like ours can; for fear of reprisal. I think this is SO sad! I was so encouraged to experience the collective pride of US citizens for our miltary (despite random negativity the media feeds us regularly). In real life, we love and appreciate our military, and this goes for the families as well! I know my cousin, the chaplain, must be off, too; I can always tell when his blog posts get “old.” I am praying daily–fervently–for all our soldiers and their families. God bless you guys!!!
