I Say NO!

I feel like I’m just gettin in the groove of summer. I’m just gettin the schedule down, just taking the kids to the water, just finished planning who’s going where, when and with who. I’m enjoying the longer days and the relaxed schedule. Just when I think I’ve got it down, I go to Target. And what’s at Target?! School supplies! Not only are there school supplies looming where the bbq supplies should be, but all the bbq and outdoor supplies are on clearance! CLEARANCE! As if they’re saying, “hurry! get this stuff outta here and let’s move onto the next thing”. AND all the cute summer sandals have been replaced with dark, sensible shoes for Fall. This is unacceptable! It’s taken me this long to settle into summer and now they want to take it away! No wonder we’re always feeling like we need to rush around. If we don’t grab onto what’s happening RIGHT AWAY, someone’s going to make us feel like we’ve missed out.
Well, I’m digging my heels in and REFUSING to make my school supply list or start checking for the best prices for at least 2 more weeks! I need more of this summer fun!
I’m choosing to hover above the reality that it’s almost time to focus on all things, Back to School. Join me!

I know. I recently received 2 big stacks of homeschooling books, lesson plans, workbooks, readers, etc etc etc… Sadly, I’ve looked at the calendar to decide when to begin. I can’t believe we’ve actually been off for 2 months, so I have this nagging feeling that I really should get back to it soon. I do enjoy sleeping in until 6:45 or so though.

Ahh, you tell ‘em Jen! Glad to hear you talk this way! Don’t let the consumer world dictate when to do anything! Considering the financial state of affairs in our country today it is about time we all reclaim our freedom of thought and our ability to decide when is the time to take action in our lives. You always get it done and the kids always go back to school with a pencil and a pen in their hands.So pack em in the car tomorrow and head for the beach girl! XO
I agree with you completely! It seems that consumers are constantly putting up things sooner and sooner. Even with holiday stuff. We don’t even have time to enjoy the right now. I am still enjoying my vacation as well and won’t be thinking of the back to-school stuff until mid August! Love you!
Had the same experience about a week ago when I ran into Target too.. I RAN out of that department faster than you’ve ever seen me move. Like this wasn’t ‘a drill’ fast.
But the damn store got me thinking…
Shoot! I hate it when that happens!
