Mommy and Me Time

With a house full of kiddos, one-0n-one time can be hard to find. So, over the years I’ve learned to grab opportunities that allow for me and one child to spend a little time together.
Today, Gabi had her school physical and she was such a trooper! She received 3 shots and she didn’t even, so much as, flinch. She even watched each shot! Her bravery (and the fact that all the other kids were at the beach) earned her a lunch date. She chose the restaurant and off we went.
One of the things I notice about the Mommy and Me time with any of the kids is that they get to speak their mind in a way that doesn’t usually happen in the house. It’s hard to let me know exactly how you feel about something when you’re shouting it over the top of everyone else. These little slices of time, always give me a different view of the child that I’m spending time with.
No great epiphany happened in the little bit of time that Gabi and I grabbed today, but it was nice to sit with her, let her decide on the food she wanted to eat and to be able to praise her for her bravery. I cherish those little pieces I get and am happy to be able to give a little different Mama than the one who is always Doing the Dance of the Children!

That is a wonderful thing to do. Admittedly, we don’t plan those types of mommy or daddy/ son “dates”, but sometimes they happen just out of necessity bc the boys need to be at different places. I can see they appreciate it, especially the daddy & son time- probably bc they see me all the time!
