Lice!
January 13, 2010
Over the last week there’s been an outbreak of lice in my children’s school. Two of my kids have had children in their classrooms with confirmed cases. The thought of lice always makes me crazy because of the magnitude of what it means in my house.
Over my 20 years of motherhood, I’ve had to delouse my children and house on 2 occasions. The many hours of hair treatments, bagging up stuffed animals, washing laundry for days on end (which is ALREADY the norm here, so now imagine the added laundry that comes with lice!) made me HATE lice with a passion and work hard to prevent it by hammering into my kids heads that they absolutely CAN NOT share hair items or scarves etc. It’s been about 6 years since we’ve had to deal with it, so I guess my rules have worked.
However, now that I’m also in the environment with the kids, I’m getting panicky. After much thought and checking the kids’ heads several times, my new advice is this;
Play only with hairless, naked children!
Have a great day~

Nothing like starting the morning with a BIG laugh! Thanks Sis! Seriously though, I hope NONE of your kiddos get it. I remember having long hair like Riah, Anna and Mad and mom painstakingly combing through it to make sure she got everything because she for some reason was determined NOT to cut our hair. AGONY!
YES! Very Essential. And Shave your Head! xoxo
This may -or may not- be from personal experience but I’m pretty sure that a flat iron just so happens to KILL lice eggs. Not the louse themselves but the ‘nits’ attached to the hair shaft. Just file that away for possible, just in case, you probably won’t need the info, reference..
hugs,
Pilar
Thank you for a the smiles! I am just returning to blogging after a year ‘away’. I was getting caught up at Cat’s DWM and followed a link here. Glad I did!
Hi Mommy of Many!
I have two kids and they got infested with lice a couple of months ago from school. It was the worst experience I ever had especially since my husband and I also got lice from our children. The school nurse at our children’s school reccomended that we use Lice Goodbye and the Rosemary Repel Preventative line made by Fairy Tales Hair Care, Inc. She swore up and down that their prodcuts work and are safe and effective, safe for even babies! I tried their products and was so relieved that not only do they work but have continued to keep my family and I lice free. We use their shampoo and conditioner every two to three days and we use their Rosemary Repel Leave In Conditioning Spray every single day before we leave to work and school. We even spray it on their coats, bookbags, etc, not just on the hair. They have amazing products that work and the great thing about it is that I am not afraid to use the products on my family. I love organic chemical free products and this the best hair care product line out there for families.
Use it and you wont be regret it, EVER!! I havent and we have been comitted to fairytales for almost one year now, we dont use anything else!!
Mommy of Two
I share your pain…though the last time we dealt with lice was when our oldest was in 1st grade, and we had *only* 3 others. Hopefully you were able to dodge that bullet this time!!
