Remember last week, when I asked about anyone who had a child with a friend that blames your child for the bad behavior that the other child is actually responsible for? Well THIS week I ask you to share your experiences of YOUR child allowing their friend to take the blame for the bad behavior that your child is actually responsible for. And how was it handled when you found out?

I haven’t had the experience with friends, but I have had it a few times with the boys. Of course usually everyone says, “I didn’t do it.” But, a few times it was the other way around. Kind of like with the “I didn’t do it,” I tell them that this is the chance to tell the truth without having a serious consequence (we are more lenient with consequences if the truth comes forth quickly). Usually, that gets the truth out pretty fast.
So, there’s a consequence like losing the scooter or bike for the next day if the truth comes out or if it doesn’t, it’s more severe like a time out paired with losing something they value a lot more than the scooter or bike. I guess we always fall back on why it’s so important to tell the truth (commandments, God sees all so they aren’t fooling anybody. Even if they fool us, in the end, it isn’t really mom & dad that matters, but what God thinks & they should care about that. And, the old “boy crying wolf” story is talked about & how we can’t trust them for awhile until they earn the trust back.
I appreciate them looking out for each other, but the truth matters, and I try to drive that home.
