~SIGH~ Why?! Why are These Types of Things Necessary For Lil Ones to Do?

The only mistake I made was turning my back. I thought I’d covered my bases and set everyone up to be occupied while I tried to pack us up to enjoy an outting. How could I have been so silly?

Lex used his unsupervised time to “draw the way  the AppleTV so that everyone could watch Bugs Bunny”. Thanks for the clearly marked pathway. Geesh!

Many, many walls in several houses have been decorated by these 9 children of mine. Yet, I still wonder why they do it. Have I not provided enough drawing paper? Color books? Writing pads? The walls? Really?! Do they think I won’t notice? That they won’t get in trouble?

~sigh~

The mind of a child can be a mystery, no matter how many times you’ve walked the path.

Well, Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and I have been good friends for a long time. I guess it’s time for a date. But guess who’s not going to find convenient parking at Balboa Park today.

LOL! Bless your heart! Walls are like a large canvas just waiting for young children to write on. This photo kind of reminds me of the book “Harold and the Purple Crayon:)

I have exactly the same problem, and I go back and forth all of the time about whether or not to even provide my children with ANY coloring materials of any kind, because I am so tired of Mr. Cleaning the “works of art” off of my walls! Thank God for the man or woman who helped invent that wonderful sponge. It has saved my sanity.

I currently have over ten marks (all at least cantaloupe sized and in various mediums of chalk, crayon, beeswax, “washable – ha! – markers”, pencil, and most upsetting of all, even a permanent marker done in dark blue) on our off white matte paint walls. Why couldn’t they at least be shiny painted walls???

And that’s to say nothing of the hand and footprints!!!

I try to remind myself of those poems that make you want to keep your kids small forever (at least for a minute, anyway). You know, the ones about how the hand prints slowly climb up the walls over the years until eventually they completely fade away entirely. Or the ones like this one:

    “Sometimes you get discouraged
    Because I am so small,
    And always leave my fingerprints
    On furniture and walls.
    But everyday I’m growing,
    I’ll be grown up someday,
    And all these tiny handprints
    Will simply fade away.
    So here’s a final handprint
    Just so you can recall,
    Exactly how my fingers looked
    When I was very small.”

Anyway. It still stinks to see a fresh “work of art” appear on the walls. What I wouldn’t give for a fresh coat of paint – and a good carpet cleaning, too!
