Mommy of Many™ Goes to Boot Camp-Session 2/Week 3/Day 4

August 12, 2010

Only one more day left in Week 3 of this session of Kraze Boot Camps classes.

I was thinking back to the first session and that around this time, my body was really fighting with me to give up. It’s good to look back, know I pushed through it and that I’m not having the same problem this time around.

Last session the changes I noticed were that my energy level went up. I had less desire or “need” for coffee or caffeine and that I gained a stamina for the exercises. This session I’m starting to notice the physical changes. Suddenly my stomach is changing. My waist is smaller. My pants are all fitting better. I don’t feel the need to hide my arms. Yea!

I know that it’s the combination of becoming more aware of what I’m eating and when I’m eating it, in conjunction with the exercise, that’s bringing on the noticeable changes. I know I have to develop healthier eating habits and not just eat better but have the desire to eat better. I’m learning a lot! The stand out thing I learned today is that I should be eating protein before I go to bed. I’ve always believed I shouldn’t eat ANYTHING before I go to bed. So tonight I’m choosing edamame.

Alright, time to grab my snack and read a little before bed.

Instructions For Brewing Coffee With A KitchenAid Coffee Maker

December 18, 2009

Every morning I get up, go to the kitchen and start my coffee maker. I’m in such a routine that I normally don’t even think about it, but some mornings I guess I should. I thought it might be helpful to myself and perhaps others to post the instructions for brewing coffee…just in case.

Take one coffee filter and add coffee grounds

Place the filter (with the grounds in it) into the brewing basket

Fill coffee carafe with water to desired level

Pour the water into the water chamber

Place carafe onto the heating portion of the coffee maker

Push the on/off button

Fool proof instructions!

2 methods that DON’T work for brewing coffee with a KitchenAid coffee maker;

1.Take a coffee filter and scoop coffee grounds into it.
Place the filled coffee filter into the brewing basket
Press the on/off button
Wait for 1/2 hr, wondering why the heck no coffee is actually being made

2. Take one coffee filter, scoop coffee grounds into it
Place filled coffee filter into brewing basket
Fill carafe with desired amount of water
Pour the water into the proper place on the coffee maker
Forget to press the on/off button
Wait 1/2 hr wondering why the heck no coffee is being brewed.

This morning I chose method #2. From now on, I’m hoping to refer to my own directions on proper brewing and to be able to enjoy my coffee 1/2 hr earlier.

Have a great day~

Let’s Talk Coffee!

March 4, 2009

coffee

If you know me or have followed this blog then you are sure to know that I am pretty much hooked up to a coffee IV drip.  Yes, I’ve given it up during each pregnancy, but only to welcome my first post-delivery meal with a steaming cup o’ joe.  While I was in bed for recovery I cut down to 1 or 2 cups in the morning and then left the afternoons caffeine free so that I could sleep.  Now, the alarm is ringing at it’s normal, still-dark-out, time and coffee and I are renewing our love affair.

I brew a pot of coffee to get the morning going, but when I’m out, I order the same drink that I’ve ordered for over 10 years; a cappuccino, dry, whipped cream under the foam, extra foam.  You’d be surprised the wide range of results I get while using the exact same words to order each time.  Most often I get a look of bewilderment and then I’m handed a latte with a pathetic amount of foam dotting the top.  No!  The truly seasoned, I’ve-been-making-Jen’s-drink-forever, baristas know that I only have to pick the cup up, testing it’s weight , to know if it’s right or not.

Well all that laying around, recovering gave me the time that I NEVER have to ponder life and all it’s workings (yes, I had my Grand Epiphany, but I managed to accomplish even more than that!) and I was able to think about the perfect combination I’ve come up with for my espresso drink.  After thinking about all the frustrating times that it was handed to me the wrong way and wondering how such a simple combo could get messed up, I realized that there’s a better, simpler, more straight-forward and most importantly, CHEAPER way to order MY drink.  Uh huh!  So yesterday I walked up to the counter with confidence (and a little sass, cuz I was so proud of my great thoughts) and ordered a dopio con panna with foam, in a tall cup, please!  Not only was it right (after they made sure that I still wanted the whipped cream.  Um, it’s a “con panna”!  Yeah, I want the whipped cream!), but it was $1.75 instead of $3.25!

A great mind can truly go a long way! ;-)

Have a great day~
