Mommy of Many Show #45: 6 Months of Deployment Down!

September 23, 2008

We have successfully marked 6 months of this deployment off of our calendar. We are mere weeks away from homecoming. The time has moved quickly which I think is because of the time of the year we’ve gone through. Summer took up a lot of the deployment time. Now that we’ve made it through “back to school” and adjusting to new schools and schedules, we are right at homecoming time. We’ve had a few bumps along the way, but we made it through them and I would call this a successful deployment for the Lang Clan!

Mommy of Many Show #44: Back to School

September 1, 2008

Tomorrow morning we wake up to a new school year! Where did the summer go?! Kateri, JJ and Mariah are all back at school. It’s time for routine and predictability, once again. I think I’m ready! We have some changes to where the kids will be going to school this year. I’m nervous and hopeful.

I hope you each had a wonderful summer and that you’re ready for the school year and all it brings.

Mommy of Many Show #43: Letting Someone Else Play Mommy of Many

August 25, 2008

I was lucky enough to have my friend, Pilar, in town this week. She graciously offered to take my kiddos out for two afternoons! I thought it would be fun to have her share her Mommy of Many adventures with you. She braved a mall and the beach. She did forget to mention the fun she had when she changed Luke-Xavier’s diaper, only to realize that there weren’t any others in the diaper bag. The drive home was tense while he sat in his car seat wearing an extra pair of Gabi’s undies.

Mommy of Many Show #42: The End of Summer and 5 Months of Deployment Down!

August 17, 2008

I can’t believe how fast the summer has gone and that 5 months of this deployment are under our belts. We’ve made it through with only a few speed bumps. I want to thank all the people in our life who have made our summer so much fun and who have taken the time to think of us and include us in many fun activities. It’s no small task to invite the Lang Clan to share time with you and we have been fortunate enough to have many invites. Thank you!

Mommy of Many Show #41: Camping with the Kids

August 10, 2008

For the last year I’ve done a pretty good job of stepping outside my “box” or comfort zone and have tried new things and stretched my limits. I thought I had stretched out enough that my “box” didn’t really exist anymore. Boy, was I wrong!

This week I found that I am capable of being more flexible than I thought.

Mommy of Many Show #40: Going to a Relaxation and Meditation Seminar

August 5, 2008

A good friend of mine invited me to go to a relaxation and meditation seminar with her. I could certainly use some tools for relaxing and de-stressing my busy days. It was a really good experience that I found full of words that affirmed some things that I’ve been thinking about. As women, it’s important that we find the time to nurture ourselves, mind, body and spirit. Too often we forget that we are not just physical beings, but spiritual beings, as well. We can better nurture those that we love by making sure that we are whole first.

This week I was able to talk with Kristen McGuire of MySecretIsMine.com. She’s another Mommy of Many, a retired miltary spouse, a published author and a good friend of mine. We got the chance to touch on how she is able to juggle her newsletter, being a mother to 8 kiddos and homeschooling. I hope you enjoy her story!

Check THIS Out!

July 23, 2008

So…..my favorite vidcaster…Chassy Cat (Wonderwoman AND Technogenius) was asking for videos awhile back and though I thought of obvious things to submit (you know, singing, dancing and the like), what I actually came up with was an idea on how to use her “One Click Server” idea to help deployed service members and their families keep in touch. So, Luke-Xavier and I sat down and made a little video about it and sent it in. Guess what?! It’s up! Go check out Chassy Cat’s Podcast O’ Technogeekery and watch me and Luke-Xavier in our video debut. And hey, while you’re over there, don’t forget to subscribe to her show. She has some seriously great ideas AND she’s too much fun to watch!

Good night~

Mommy of Many Show #38: Teens and Routines

July 20, 2008

It’s been a couple of tough weeks around here and I’ve had to face up to the fact that part of the problem is that I wasn’t taking my own advice. When summer began and the kids came home, I stopped writing the Morning Memo, stopped writing a detailed schedule and didn’t do a very good job of enforcing the chores. I, somehow, thought that everything that I had put into place would just keep running itself. WRONG! So, now I’m picking up the pieces and getting back to business. In letting things slide, I’ve realized that some of my kids’ behavior also slid. Geesh! Everything is connected!

Mommy of Many Show #37: The Way Things Are

July 7, 2008

We are just past mid-deployment and I can feel the kids getting antsy. Everyone misses Dad and they are tired of Mom’s rules. I’m a bit tired and worn-down myself. So, nerves are exposed and we are trying hard to work together toward a peaceful and productive household. ~Sigh~ We are not always successful. But, still we try!

I had the privilege of talking with Paige and Gretchen of MommyCast.com for their 4th of July show and wanted to put a link to the show. So, after you’ve listened to this week’s short show, click on over to listen as the MommyCasters ask me about being a military spouse and also interview a single mother with a military career.

I hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July weekend! Thank you for visiting MommyofMany.com and for listening to the show!

Mommy of Many Show #36: Making Summertime Work

June 29, 2008

This week’s show is sponsored by Aveeno Baby!

Now that we are in full swing of summer, it’s time to take a look at the budget and the calendar and make sure we can keep the kiddos busy while not breaking the bank! Summertime means extra kiddos at the house and being brought along to events. It also means providing fun and snacks. I offer up a few ideas on keeping everyone happy, while staying on budget.

Thanks to Pilar for sending in this show idea!

Mommy of Many Show #35: Learning Lessons #7-Be Flexible

June 22, 2008

This week’s show is sponsored by Aveeno Baby!

I learned a valuable lesson this week! I often get so locked into the plan of the day that I can’t enjoy a nice surprise or change of plans. When I realized that I had forgotten to write down plans with one of my sisters I had to decided that visiting with family and enjoying the yard and the kids was more important than well-laid plans. Guess what?…..it all worked out beautifully. With a little flexibility and a big breath, I was able to enjoy my company and still get the things done that had to be done.

Be flexible! It’ll all work out!

Mommy of Many Show #34: How I Handle Dinner

June 15, 2008

This week’s show is sponsored by Aveeno Baby!

It was the last week of school which made for a lot of excitement and busy work. I felt challenged when thinking about putting a show together in the midst of all that was going on. We had the added excitement of a family photo shoot for the July issue of Military Spouse magazine. A local photographer and military spouse, Deb Schwedhelm took the pictures and did a fabulous job of getting my kiddos comfortable with the camera! I posted a link to a blog she did about her experience, photographing my family, a couple of days ago. She’s fantastic!

But, even in the middle of a busy week, I knew that we had to find a topic for this week’s show. I thank Jessica for sending in her request for a show on how I handle dinner! If you have a show idea, you can use the contact link on the right side of the page. All ideas are welcome!

Mommy of Many Show #33: Talking With Dr. Jim about Postpartum Depression and the Baby Blues

June 8, 2008

This week’s show is sponsored by Aveeno Baby!

I had the pleasure of talking to Dr. Jim from Healthbuzz about the difference between Postpartum Depression and the Baby Blues. After each of my kids I’ve felt a difference is emotions and the intensity of how I react to certain situations. I always felt that I must have been experiencing Postpartum Depression but was confused by the label and what I thought the definition of that was. I felt very timid about talking about it because I didn’t want people to think I wasn’t connecting with my baby or that I couldn’t care for my children. Now that Luke-Xavier is two years old and I’m well past the stage of feeling like anything is wrong, I decided to ask some questions and found out that my feelings were very normal and were considered the “Baby Blues” and not Postpartum depression. I hope this show offers some clarification to the line between what’s normal and what might be the signs of something more serious.

Thank you for visiting MommyofMany.com and for listening to the show. I welcome your comments, questions and show ideas.
